We just saw some great cpu and gpu hardware released, we're close to Black Friday, but that doesn't seem to have resulted in much of a discount for a person who is fine being a generation behind. Just remembered I'm close to the Atlanta Microcenters and Fry's. TL DR: Does a GTX 2060and i5-9600k sound reasonable for steady 99% of the time, in WoW? That's about $320 gpu and $220 cpu (cpu 200 + 20 fan). My guess is I'll keep this thing for 4 years or more. I paid $150 for the 1050ti and the best for $150 now is. My god that's an 8 yo CPU with a 4 yo GPU. I currently have a core i5-3450/8GB build that went through 2 gpu upgrades finishing with a GTX 1050 TI. I too mainly play WoW or Diablo but at 1440p.

Hi BillFoster, hope you don't mind if I muscle in on your 1080p "good enough" thread with a 1440p "good enough/maybe better" advice request. What CPU should I look at? Is it reasonable to expect I can do this for $750 or under, assuming box only (I will recycle monitor and peripherals from old rig)? I want to keep the budget low, while still achieving decent WoW performance (something like, hit 30 FPS at 1080p on medium settings). I'll do basic word processing, e-mail, web browsing, etc., but I'm not in the slightest concerned about any of that.īudget-wise, I'm not exactly sure what's reasonable. That's the pinnacle of gaming the machine will be required for. My goals are pretty straightforward: I want to play World of Warcraft. But then my thought was, maybe I'm better off just building or buying an entirely new machine. My immediate thought was, well it can't be that expensive to buy an equivalent video card to a 760. I didn't bother clocking the exact FPS, but my eyeball estimation is that it's between 16-20 FPS. I tried running WoW with the video card, and it's not great.

The ACTUAL minimum spec is an nVidia 760. The client immediately told me that I'm not running a supported video card. Only I bought the expansion, installed it, and. And I thought, great! I can play WoW! Fantastic! This rig still has some life left in it. Coincidentally, this is EXACTLY what my old gaming rig has. I was apparently lied to by Blizzard, whose advertising materials state that the minimum spec for playing World of Warcraft is currently an Intel i5-760 and an nVidia 560 Ti.
